Business Education

Accounting I - 5 credits

 This course provides practical financial information for an owner of a business, a clerical worker, retail personnel, or for personal use. Students will become familiar with business forms, vocabulary, organization, and procedures. It offers vocational accounting practice and will aid students in discovering their interest and aptitude for a career in the financial or accounting field. Exposure to automated accounting is achieved through completion of a business simulation.

Accounting I Honors - 5 credits

 This is a challenging course that covers all Accounting I topics at a more rigorous pace. A college text is used throughout the course, with a greater emphasis placed on an understanding of concepts. Automated accounting procedures will be utilized throughout the program. This course is recommended for juniors and seniors who are preparing for a career in accounting, finance, business management, marketing or economics.

Accounting II - 5 credits

 This course is the second in a sequence that provides for the study of accounting procedures as applied to partnership and corporate forms of business organization. Emphasis is placed on broadening the accounting fundamentals covered in Accounting I through analysis and interpretation of records and financial reports. Utilization of the computer will provide students with a realistic approach to automated accounting procedures. Accounting I must be successfully completed as a prerequisite.

 

Notetaking/Study Skills - 5 credits

 The primary purpose of this course is to prepare students to take complete notes for future lecture courses. An alphabetic shorthand system acts as the basis of the program, with live and taped lectures, videos, printed material, and films providing the source for the notetaking experiences.

Computer Application I - 5 credits

This course will provide students with hands-on training on utilizing Microsoft Office Suite of products to efficiently operate a computer to solve problems. The students will master skills beyond the basic operations required to enhance spreadsheets, presentations, databases, multimedia design, information management, and documents. The course will emphasize the resolution of real-life problem solving, for instance, a spreadsheet that can be used to calculate purchasing a car or home mortgage payment. The skills acquired in this course will be a valuable asset to the other courses our students will take at the high school level and future college level courses. There is no prerequisite.

Computer Application II - 5 credits

 This course will benefit students going to college or into the workforce directly. Students will be taught to use advanced computer application features to facilitate their ability to continuously update their technology skills in this ever-changing field. Students will continue their skill development in a word processing program, WORD; a spreadsheet program, EXCEL: a presentation program, POWERPOINT and the INTERNET. They will become familiar with database program, ACCESS and will integrate these software programs in order to complete simulations as apart of the final projects in this course. All work will be done on the computer using the applications tasks that relate to current work environment standards.

Career Technologies in Business (CTB) (603) - 5 Credits

The focus of this course will be on understanding human relations in a business environment, business management, and business communications. Sports and entertainment management concepts, business management, marketing, operations, finance and human resource management will be studied. This course will address understanding how a business operates within our economic system. Project based learning will connect real-life business to our curriculum. Through the use of varied software, students will develop business and marketing skills to guide them through their college and/or career pathways.
