Studio Art includes the following Units of Study: Drawing Fundamentals, Expressive Drawing, Color Exploration and Painting. The Drawing Fundamentals units are designed to allow students to explore methods by which they can learn to visualize and represent their environment. Students will explore the techniques of creating a 3-dimensional world on a 2- dimensional surface. The expressive drawing units will introduce the student to the key factors artists need to create visual imagery that supports a feeling, mood or emotion. Students will continue their study of the elements, principles and techniques of drawing, but with an emphasis on the expressive potential of drawing. The Color Exploration units are designed to allow students to explore methods by which color can be incorporated into an artwork. The Painting units of this course are designed to familiarize students with a variety of painting techniques, mediums, and their practical application. The study of paintings and artists throughout history provide the student with a better understanding of applied techniques. Students will be encouraged to adapt these techniques to enhance their own creative artwork. Application will be followed by open critique and analysis of the principles and elements of design, techniques, and media used. These applied skills are designed to give the student greater command of their artwork and allow them the freedom to develop their creativity.
